Unexpected, But Good

Why Creators Are Flocking to Venice Beach

We visited The Lighthouse for the first time last week, and it was clear right away why so many creators are heading to Venice Beach. The place doesn’t feel like a typical coworking space. Instead, it’s like the creator economy in action. You’ll see a YouTuber working on thumbnails, a TikToker jumping between calls, founders talking about AI startups, and creators turning coffee chats into new projects.

What really stands out about The Lighthouse isn’t just who works there, but who is building things there.

Colin Rosenblum and Samir Chaudry, known for their Colin & Samir YouTube show, work out of The Lighthouse. The space has also teamed up with Kaya Yurieff, former journalist for The Information, and Jasmine Enberg, a media commentator seen on Bloomberg, CNBC, and BBC. Together, they launch Scalable, a new media company that covers the business side of creators.

That alone shows a lot about where this industry is going.

While Hollywood grew around movie studios and production lots, Venice Beach now seems to be growing around creator-led media companies, newsletters, podcasts, YouTube channels, and online brands.

At lunch, Hannah Doyle, editor at ThePublishPress, a weekly newsletter about the creator economy, said something that stayed with us. She pointed out that Venice Beach and The Lighthouse are quietly turning into what Studio City, Burbank, and Hollywood used to be for traditional entertainment. The big change is that now the studios are inside MacBooks, and the creators are the networks.

You can really feel that change as soon as you walk in.
